On August 1st, in the morning, Lee Byung-hun conducted an interview at a café in Jongno-gu, Seoul, ahead of the release of the movie ‘Concrete Utopia’.
Regarding ‘Squid Game 2,’ Lee Byung-hun said, “‘We didn’t think about Season 2 when we made the original series. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said he would never do a TV series again. It was challenging,” and he revealed, “But as it became such a big hit, he decided to do it.”
Lee Byung-hun shared his surprise, saying, “What really amazed me was that when I read Season 2, I felt that the director is a storyteller. I realized that he could create something out of nothing. It was a work that we didn’t think about making Season 2, but it turned out to be so enjoyable.” He raised expectations. Particularly, Lee Byung-hun firmly stated that there is “not a single thing that matches” the story speculated by foreign press.
Regarding his driving force to continuously take on various characters in acting, Lee Byung-hun expressed his belief, saying, “It’s not about me being pure, but I think it’s necessary to strive to not lose that innocence.”
Lee Byung-hun admired older foreign directors, saying, “There are many older directors abroad, and every time they create more stylish and refined works, I am amazed. How can they have so much strength in their age and keep producing creative works? I think it’s because of their childlike innocence that such things are possible.”
He added, “I think that such things continue to create something.”
