FT Island’s Choi Min-hwan and former LABOUM’s Kim Yul-hee broke up their marriage after 5 years

FT Island’s Choi Min-hwan and former LABOUM’s Kim Yul-hee broke up their marriage after five years.

Both Choi Min-hwan and Kim Yul-hee met with Dr. Oh Eun-young due to conflict between them, but ended up going through divorce mediation procedures.

Choi Min-hwan’s agency, FNC Entertainment, said on the 4th, “After careful consideration, Choi Min-hwan and Kim Yul-hee have decided to divorce and divorce mediation procedures are in progress. It was agreed that Choi Min-hwan would have custody of the three children.”

At the same time, Choi Min-hwan and Kim Yul-hee also announced the news of their divorce on their respective Instagram accounts.

Choi Min-hwan said, “After a long discussion, my wife and I have agreed to end our marriage. I am sorry to everyone who supported and watched our decision to start a family at a young age.”

He continued, “I am grateful and truly sorry to my family, team members, and fans who supported me. I will also do my best to the end in my role as a father so that my children will not be left with any heartache. I will be able to greet you with good news again.”

Kim Yul-hee said, “After much effort and discussion, my husband and I have decided to support each other in our respective paths. Although our journey as a couple has ended here, it is not the end for us as the children’s mother and father, so we will both do our best to take care of our children and communicate with them.”

She said, “Currently, after much thought, I decided that it would be right for the children to stay in the space they have been living in to avoid realistic problems and psychological anxiety as much as possible, so their father is raising them, and I am also concerned about the absence of their mother.”

“I am spending time with my children often so that they don’t feel it.” she said, adding that Choi Min-hwan is in charge of raising the three children.

She added, “I was very worried that this news would be sudden and embarrassing as much as you supported it. However, after many conversations, it was a decision that was not easy and was made for the sake of each other’s happiness, so I hope you will watch with warm eyes.”

Previously, the two appeared on Channel A’s “Oh Eun-young’s Golden Counseling Center” in December last year and confronted Oh Eun-young about not being able to continue the conversation due to their different opinions and the issue of their children’s education.

At the time, Choi Min-hwan revealed that Kim Yul-hee was spending 8 million won per month on the education of three children, and also said, “My wife buys things for my children if they want them, and I think learning how to control yourself is also education.”

At that time, after consulting with Dr. Oh Eun-yeong at the “Geumjok Counseling Center”, Kim Yul-hee said, “I was angry because I thought Min-hwan made me feel more sad and had done a lot of things wrong. But I realized that maybe it was my problem. I had to change so that my brother could change little by little.” However, after a year of appearing on the program, they divorced without being able to bridge the gap, which is unfortunate.

Meanwhile, Choi Min-hwan and Yul-hee announced the news of their relationship in 2017, got married in 2018, and gave birth to a son. She then gave birth to twin daughters in 2020. Kim Yul-hee was only 21 years old at the time of her marriage, and she received a lot of attention for being the ‘youngest married idol’.
