“Exhuma” is on the verge of surpassing 10 million cumulative viewers.

According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network for movie ticket sales on the 23rd, “Exhuma” recorded a cumulative audience of 9,699,897 as of the 30th day of its release.

Maintaining the top spot at the box office throughout the 30th day, it was only 300,000 viewers away from the 10 million mark. It is expected to surpass 10 million on the 24th.

“Exhuma” is directed by Jang Jae-hyun, a native of Yeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, known for films like “The Priests” (2015) and “Svaha: The Sixth Finger” (2019). The story revolves around Hwalim, a shaman who receives a request to relocate and rebury a suspicious grave for a large sum of money, and Bong-gil, who suggests to Feng Shui master Sang-deok and mortician Young-geun to join him in the task. After the four of them dig up the grave, they face strange occurrences. Starring Choi Min-sik, Kim Go-eun, Lee Do-hyun, and Yoo Hai-jin, the film delivers outstanding performances.

“Exhuma” has surpassed “The Wailing” (6.87 million) to become the highest-grossing occult genre film in South Korea.
