Once again, the Kim Soo-hyun syndrome is sweeping across

Once again, the Kim Soo-hyun syndrome is sweeping across.

Kim Soo-hyun is meeting viewers as the character Baek Hyun-woo in the TVN weekend drama “Queen of Tears.”

“Queen of Tears” depicts the story of Baek Hyun-woo (played by Kim Soo-hyun), the third-generation heir of a conglomerate and the son of a supermarket owner, who becomes a couple with the queen of the Queens group, Hong Hae-in (played by Kim Ji-won), and overcomes a precarious crisis to miraculously fall in love again after being married for three years.

Baek Hyun-woo, played by Kim Soo-hyun, was an ordinary company employee who graduated from Seoul National University Law School but entered the conglomerate after meeting Hong Hae-in and is now living with his in-laws as a lawyer. For Kim Soo-hyun, this marks his comeback after three years since the 2021 Coupang Play drama “One Ordinary Day,” and it’s his third collaboration with writer Park Ji-eun following “My Love from the Star” and “The Producers.”

Especially, in 2013, he received explosive love for his role as Do Min-joon in SBS’s “My Love from the Star,” creating a “Do Manager syndrome” and becoming a representative Hallyu star, enjoying the highest popularity not only in Korea but also in China and other Asian countries. Since then, he has continued to thrive with perfect acting and visuals in every role he takes on.

However, the popularity of “Queen of Tears” is also noteworthy. Starting with 5.9% on the 9th, “Queen of Tears” recorded 8.7% in the second episode and 9.6% in the third episode, drawing a remarkable upward trend. In the fourth episode, it proved its tremendous popularity with a whopping 13.0% viewer rating, breaking through the two-digit barrier in one fell swoop. This is even faster and more impressive than writer Park Ji-eun’s previous work, “Crash Landing on You.”

Truly, the era of Kim Soo-hyun’s glory has begun again. In the first episode, he showed excessive cuteness beyond limits in his drunk scene and even drew attention for ad-libbing that paid homage to Kim Ji-won’s lines from “Fight For My Way.” He also mimicked Suzy’s front tooth fluttering, making each episode endearing and adorable.

Viewers are increasingly tuning in not only to the live broadcast but also to the making-of and behind-the-scenes videos. It’s fun to see Kim Soo-hyun’s sincerity and passion as he pours himself into each scene. Whether it’s the Baek Hyun-woo completed by Kim Soo-hyun or the perfectly portrayed Baek Hyun-woo by Kim Soo-hyun, both are charming in their own right.

He debuted in 2007 with the MBC sitcom “Kimchi Cheese Smile,” solidified his position as a trusted and beloved Hallyu star and a top actor through teen dramas, short dramas, and leading roles in miniseries. And now, the era of his glory has arrived once again. Everyone has fallen for Kim Soo-hyun all over again.
