On the recent episode of the KBS2 variety show ‘Golden Girls’ aired on the 27th, singer Park Mi-kyung, who has been in the music industry for 39 years, displayed her remarkable vocal talent by performing the song ‘I AM’ by the group IVE.
During the broadcast, PD Park Jin-young revealed a surprising connection from the past when Park Mi-kyung almost debuted as a member of a team called ‘Freestyle.’ He expressed his desire to create a stage that would feel like bursting with emotions and proposed to Park Mi-kyung that she join ‘Golden Girls.’
Park Mi-kyung, despite expressing concerns like, “I wonder if we can do this,” readily accepted the offer. She showed dedication during the practice sessions for IVE’s ‘I AM’ in front of all the members. However, her powerful vocals, reaching beyond the third octave, made her exclaim, “Every day feels like hell.” The studio engineer consoled her, saying, “It’s a song for six members, singing it alone is challenging.” Nevertheless, Park Mi-kyung replied, “That’s just an excuse,” displaying her unwavering professionalism.
A few days later, In-sooni, Park Mi-kyung, Shin Hyo-beom, and Lee Eun-mi gathered in the studio to present their latest songs. Park Mi-kyung, performing IVE’s ‘I AM’ flawlessly, even including a rap segment, impressed everyone.
Listening to her performance, Park Jin-young exclaimed, “You can still sing the high notes I knew!” and praised, “It’s the best vocal ability for a female singer.” Waiting for her turn, In-sooni expressed her nervousness, saying, “I thought I would do well, but how can I follow that?” Lee Eun-mi also praised Park Mi-kyung’s skill, saying, “She turned the stage upside down.”
‘Golden Girls’ features legendary singers with a combined career spanning over 150 years debuting as a girl group. In-sooni, Park Mi-kyung, Shin Hyo-beom, and Lee Eun-mi have taken up the challenge. The show airs every Friday night at 10 PM on KBS 2TV.
