Park Min-young, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, spread positive influence through a donation for cancer patients.
Park Min-young donated 100 million won to the hospital’s cancer center on the 7th, asking for the funds to be used for the treatment of cancer patients.
The inspiration for Park Min-young’s donation for cancer patients came from her role as Kang Ji-won in the currently airing tvN drama “Marry My Husband”. In the drama, Kang Ji-won is the tragic protagonist who witnesses her husband’s affair with a friend while battling terminal cancer. As a late-stage cancer patient herself, Kang Ji-won faces death after fighting with her husband and is then reborn ten years into the past, planning revenge against her husband.
Park Min-young garnered attention for realistically portraying Kang Ji-won’s terminal cancer by losing 6kg, bringing her weight down to 37kg. Through this process, she indirectly learned about the struggles of real cancer patients and decided to donate a portion of her drama appearance fee, aiming to provide some support to those fighting cancer.
Park Min-young has been actively engaged in charity work. In March 2022, she donated 100 million won to the Hope Bridge Disaster Relief Association to help victims of wildfires in Uljin, Gyeongbuk, and Samcheok, Gangwon. In March 2019, she also donated the proceeds from merchandise sales, planned by herself for fans, to the animal protection organization “KARA,” using her fans’ nickname as the donor.
Currently, the drama “Marry My Husband”, which has aired up to episode 12, has been receiving praise for the performances of Park Min-young and other cast members, as well as for its satisfying revenge storyline, resonating with viewers and leading in ratings during its time slot. Starting with a rating of 5.2% in the first episode, “Marry My Husband” has seen a steady increase in ratings, reaching its highest rating of 11.8% in episode 11. The popularity of the drama, combined with Park Min-young’s warm-hearted gestures for the underprivileged, has further illuminated her positive influence.
Park Min-young made her debut in the entertainment industry as a commercial model in 2005 and began her acting career with the MBC sitcom “High Kick” in 2006. Since then, she has appeared in numerous dramas such as “Sungkyunkwan Scandal,” “Glory Jane,” “Remember,” “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim,” “Her Private Life,” and “About Forecasting Love and Weather”. With her stable acting skills and each project’s success at the box office, she has earned the nicknames ‘Box Office Guarantee’ and ‘Romantic Comedy Queen’.
