On the 29th, Key wrote an apology letter in both Korean and English, stating, “I feel only sorry for the discomfort and hurt that people may have experienced due to my inappropriate words and actions.”
He continued, “In the future, I will be more careful not to cause discomfort with my words and actions. I sincerely apologize.”
Previously, Key sparked controversy with racial discrimination remarks in SHINee‘s official YouTube channel variety show ‘샤.계.한.’ In the video, when Taemin mentioned that Minho‘s teeth have been visible since he started playing golf, Key commented, “Why did you get so dark?” while making derogatory comments about Minho’s appearance.
Overseas fans who watched the video pointed out that Key and Taemin had made racially discriminatory remarks. In response, Prism Production issued an apology, stating, “We apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable due to the content of the uploaded content on SHINee’s channel. In the process of capturing the members’ conversations realistically, inappropriate words were included, and we immediately took action to delete the problematic parts. We apologize to everyone who was hurt, and members Key and Taemin are deeply sorry for the thoughtless comments they made.”
