On the 12th, in the YouTube content ‘Excuses’, SHINee’s Key met Yoo Jae-suk and Ji Suk-jin and shared various stories.
Among the comments on the ‘Excuses’ video, one netizen revealed Key’s hidden story, saying, “SHINee Key, thank you for supporting my son’s leukemia medication expenses (it’s a huge amount) that are not covered by insurance. Thanks to you, our son is doing well now. Thank you again.”
This was a story that even fans didn’t know. Netizens left replies such as “It’s a warm story that I’m hearing for the first time. I hope your son recovers completely,” “It’s a relief that your son is now healthy,” and “I hope everyone, including the baby who must have had a hard time receiving treatment and the author, will live happily.”
In 2019, before his military enlistment, SHINee’s Key donated 10 million KRW to Chilgok Kyungpook National University Hospital. At that time, Key visited the ward where sick children were hospitalized, took commemorative photos, and conveyed words of encouragement. The hospital announced that the entire donation would be used for the medical expenses and supplies for sick children in difficult family circumstances.
The following year, Key’s fans also donated 12.1 million KRW to the Korean Childhood Leukemia Foundation to commemorate Key’s thirtieth birthday. The Korean Childhood Leukemia Foundation stated that the entire donation would be used in Key’s name for emergency pediatric cancer treatment expenses for single-parent families experiencing economic difficulties due to COVID-19.
Meanwhile, through ‘Excuses,’ Key recalled his challenging debut process. Key said, “I don’t think I can do it again. We didn’t know anything, but we kept trying. It was so hard.” “There were originally 8 of us. We were selected from 20 boys. Some friends went back to China, and at the end, we really didn’t talk. Because every minute and second is precious. It’s a video test at the end. This is the last test for the teacher. He really polished his teeth and prepared his self-introduction. It’s not a colleague I practiced with. I have to beat him,” he remembered.
Key said, “I don’t understand it at all, but I wish they had written cards and done it one-on-one. But they call out everyone and ask, ‘Who are the members?’ How can you like it there? I was called fourth out of fifth. Three of them were almost fixed. Jonghyun, Taemin, and Minho. Minho went back and forth a little, but those two didn’t. ‘Those two are fixed. How many more members are there? If I go up, it’s enough (I thought),” he revealed.
