“Strong Girl Nam-soon” ends on a 10.4% nationwide happy ending

“Strong Girl Nam-soon” provided a thrilling and exhilarating catharsis until the end.

JTBC’s Saturday-Sunday drama “Strong Girl Nam-soon” (written by Baek Mi-kyung, directed by Kim Jeong-sik and Lee Kyung-sik, produced by Barunson C&C, Story Phoenix, SLL) ended on the 26th amidst rave reviews.

The ending, in which ‘mother and daughter heroes’ Kang Nam-soon (played by Lee Yu-mi), Hwang Hwang-ju (played by Kim Jong-un), and Gil Joong-gan (played by Kim Hae-sook) implement justice to create a better world to live in, was exhilarating. The happy ending of Kang Nam-soon and Kang Hee-sik (played by Ong Seong-wu), who captured both their love and the villain, was heart-fluttering until the very end.

Kang Nam-soon’s bold declaration of war, “This should not be a world where bad guys win,” made us look forward to her continued performance somewhere. Here, the appearance of “Jang Chung-dong” left a lasting impression, foreshadowing another expansion of the ‘strong’ worldview.

If “Strong Woman Do Bong-soon” opened a new horizon for “K-female hero dramas”, “Strong Girl Nam-soon” went further to showcase the essence of Korean-style family hero dramas. The ‘great power’ of the three mother and daughter heroes, who became even more powerful based on the ‘strong’ worldview that the power passed down from the mother’s line should only be used for good things, shined even brighter in helping the weak against social evil.

Amid her cheerful laughter, author Baek Mi-kyung’s insight also shined as she tactfully pointed out her social problems. The passionate performances of actors such as Lee Yu-mi, Kim Jung-eun, Kim Hae-sook, Ong Seong-wu, and Byeon Woo-seok, as well as Lee Seung-jun, Han Sang-jo, Kim Ki-du, Jeong Bo-seok, Lim Ha-ryong, Park Young-tak, Song Jin-woo, and Yoo Ha-seong, who increased the persuasiveness and doubled the fun in the ‘strong’ worldview, were praised until the end.

The viewership rating for the final episode was 10.4% nationwide and 11.1% in the metropolitan area (Nielsen Korea, based on paid households), ranking first among non-terrestrial channels in a record-breaking situation.

On this day, Kang Nam-soon escaped the crisis thanks to the ‘motivational response’ that risked the lives of Hwang Geum-ju and the middle of the road, but she was unable to stop Ryu Shio (played by Byun Woo-seok). Ryu Shio, who administered ‘CTA 4885’, attacked Kang Nam-soon with her monster power.

Kang Nam-soon, who was unable to exert her strength due to her medicinal energy, fought back with all her might. When she was injured, Ryu Shio became even more reckless, and Kang Nam-soon faced another crisis. But Kang Hee-sik appeared like a miracle and saved Kang Nam-soon. Kang Hee-sik, who took Kang Nam-soon to the hospital after she collapsed, even succeeded in finding an antidote for her.

Meanwhile, Ryu Shio had nowhere to retreat. His friend “Bingbing” (Lee Hong-nae), who he met at the edge of a cliff, came to get rid of him. Ryu Shio collapsed at Bingbing’s words, “I have to kill you to live.” However, instead of killing him, Bingbing gave him his gun. And Ryu Shio, who was surrounded by Kang Hee-sik, pointed a gun at his head, and Kang Nam-soon tried to stop him, but it was no use. That’s how ‘drug villain’ Ryu Shio met a bitter end.

Although Ryu Shio died and those involved in distributing ‘CTA 4885’ were arrested, not all new synthetic drug crimes were solved.

In order to solve ‘CTA 4885’, which had spread nationwide, the supply of antidote was key. Kang Nam-soon found the antidote hidden in ‘Dogang Stationery Store’, and Hwang Geum-joo succeeded in securing her ‘antidote formula’ by roasting and boiling her Doctor Choi (played by Kang Gil-woo) in her own way.

‘Mother and daughter heroes’ Kang Nam-soon, Hwang Geum-ju, and Gil Joong-gan, who solved a new synthetic drug case, became more clear about their goals in life.

Hwang Geum-ju declared war against the dark forces that were ruining the world, and Jung-jung of the Path of Advance stepped forward to prevent crimes against the elderly. His charisma in the middle of the road, where he once struck down a swindler who brought the elderly to tears and warned, “From now on, all the bastards who scam the elderly will come after me,” added to the excitement.

Kang Nam-soon achieved her goal of becoming ‘a person who is helpful to someone.’ She was specially hired as a police officer in recognition of her contribution to eradicating a new synthetic drug crime.

Regarding Gang Nam-soon’s performance in taking down drug criminals, “At least this should not be a world where the bad guys win. I will do it. The narration, “I am the ‘strong’ woman Gang Nam-soon,” brought more than just exhilarating catharsis. The cute kiss that followed Kang Hee-sik’s special proposal that he could be her good father also provided the perfect happy ending.
