The New York Times drew attention by selecting Yoo Teo as a strong candidate for the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 96th Academy Awards

The New York Times drew attention by selecting Yoo Teo of the movie “Fast Lives” as a strong candidate for the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 96th Academy Awards.

The New York Times published an article on the 5th titled “Who should the Academy nominate in 2024?”

In the article, film critics Manola Dargis and Alyssa Wilkinson predicted the nominees for each category at the 96th Academy Awards.

The Best Supporting Actor nominees they predicted included Yoo Teo from “Fast”, Charles Menton from “May December”, Ryan Gosling from “Barbie”, Glenn Howerton from “Blackberry”, and Mark Ruffalo from “Poor Things”.

Among them, Alyssa Wilkinson left an evaluation of Yoo Teo, calling him “excellent.”

“Past Lives” is a work that depicts the fateful two days of a man and a woman who reunite in New York 20 years after being separated as children. Korean-Canadian Celine Song was in charge of directing, and the delicate performances of Greta Lee and actor Yoo Teo of the Apple TV+ series “The Morning Show” were well received. It is scheduled to be released in Korea in the first half of this year.

“Past Lives” quickly emerged as a hot topic after its world premiere at the 39th Sundance International Film Festival last January, and was invited to the competition section of the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, one of the world’s three major film festivals, before being nominated for an Academy Award in November of last year. It entered the Oscar race in earnest by winning Best Picture and Best New Film at the Gotham Awards and New York Film Critics Circle Awards, which are considered major indicators.

It was also nominated in five categories at the 81st Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture (Drama), Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress (Drama), and Best Non-English Language Film.

Meanwhile, the final candidates for the 96th Academy Awards will be announced on the 23rd. The awards ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on March 10th.
