Choi Yena’s MV Remained Unreleased Due to Copyright Infringement

Singer Choi Yena’s agency has explained the reason for converting the music video for her new song to private.

On the 30th, Yehua Entertainment, Choi Yena’s agency, stated that they had discovered potential infringements of trademark rights, portrait rights, and copyrights in certain scenes of the music video for her second single album’s title track, “Hate Rodrigo,” and made it private on the 29th.

They further explained that they are currently working on editing the video and will upload it as soon as the editing is completed.

In particular, the agency emphasized that the music video was not converted to private due to a request from Olivia Rodrigo’s side. They stated that they have not received any such requests and hope that misunderstandings do not arise from unverified reports.

On the 27th, Choi Yena released her second single, “Hate XX.” The title track, “Hate Rodrigo,” is a cute expression of jealousy towards those who are doing better, with lyrics saying, “I hate everyone who’s doing better than me!” The album concept also pays homage to Olivia Rodrigo.

However, some netizens criticized the album, saying it was not an homage but rather a copy. There were also concerns that the word “Hate” in the title could be considered disrespectful to Olivia Rodrigo.

Below is the full statement from Choi Yena’s side:

Hello, this is Yehua Entertainment.

We would like to provide our position regarding the music video for the title track “Hate Rodrigo” from our artist Choi Yena’s second single album.

We discovered potential infringements of trademark rights, portrait rights, and copyrights in certain scenes of the music video, and therefore, we made it private on the 29th. We apologize for causing confusion without prior notice. We are currently working on editing the video and will upload it as soon as it is completed.

We would also like to clarify that the music video was not converted to private at the request of Olivia Rodrigo’s side. We have not received any such requests, and we hope that this clarification prevents misunderstandings among the artists and fans. We also kindly ask everyone to refrain from spreading speculative rumors.

We would like to express our gratitude for the interest and love shown towards Choi Yena’s album. We will humbly accept various feedback and repay it with even more dedication to music.
