‘2023 SBS Drama Awards’ concludes with official commemoration of the late Lee Sun-kyun

The ‘2023 SBS Drama Awards’ ceremony concluded with a somber and dignified atmosphere, featuring some actors who took the stage to commemorate the late Lee Sun-kyun (48).

On the 29th, the ‘2023 SBS Drama Awards’ took place at SBS Prism Tower in Seoul. Actors, dressed in black, expressed their condolences for the late actor.

During acceptance speeches, references to Lee Sun-kyun were frequent. Actors like Park Sung-woong and Lee Jehoon took the stage with solemn expressions, conveying heartfelt emotions towards Lee Sun-kyun.

After the awards ceremony, a mourning message from the drama ‘The Insider’ team was conveyed.

The cast and crew of ‘The Insider’ stated, “Lee Sun-kyun, who appeared in ‘The Insider,’ has left us. We pray for the deceased’s eternal rest.”

The ‘The Insider’ team, including Kang Yoo-seok and Park Hoon, had planned to attend the awards ceremony but decided to abstain in mourning for the deceased.

Lee Sun-kyun played the role of Eun Yong in ‘The Insider,’ achieving a remarkable viewership rating of 11.4%.

Meanwhile, Lee Sun-kyun, who was under investigation for alleged drug use, attended the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency’s narcotics crime investigation unit on the 23rd of this month for the third round of questioning. He returned home the next morning.

Three days later, on the 27th, he was found dead inside a car in a parking lot in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul. Lee Sun-kyun reportedly left a note expressing apologies to his family.

The remains of the deceased went through cremation at Yeonhwa Funeral Hall in Suwon and were enshrined at Samsung Ellesseum in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province.
