BLACKPINK nominated in 6 categories at MTV VMA 2023

BLACKPINK has showcased their formidable influence in the global music scene by earning nominations in a total of 6 categories at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMAs).

On September 1st, MTV VMAs officially announced additional nominees for this year’s awards on their website and social media channels. According to the announcement, BLACKPINK has been nominated for ‘Group of the Year’ and ‘Show of the Summer.’

Previously, BLACKPINK had already garnered nominations for ‘Best K-Pop,’ ‘Best Choreography,’ ‘Best Art Direction,’ and ‘Best Editing’ from their second album, “Pink Venom.” This makes them the group with the most nominations at this year’s MTV VMAs.

The recently added ‘Show of the Summer’ category is garnering a lot of interest. BLACKPINK has earned a nomination in this segment for their extensive ‘BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK],’ which kicked off last October and has since pulled in 1.75 million spectators across 34 global cities. Should they clinch this award, it would mark another groundbreaking achievement for the group.

The question remains if BLACKPINK, who have established themselves as the world’s top girl group, will take home trophies from the MTV VMAs for the second consecutive year. In 2020, they won the ‘Song Of The Summer’ award for “How You Like That,” and last year, they secured wins in ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ and ‘Best K-Pop (for Lisa’s solo).’

The MTV VMAs are considered one of the four major American music award shows, along with the Grammy Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, and the American Music Awards. The event, which has a history spanning over 40 years since its inception in 1984, presents awards in about 24 categories. This year’s ceremony will be held on September 12th (local time) at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently undertaking the world tour ‘BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK],’ covering North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East. On September 16th and 17th, they plan to host a concert at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, marking the grand finale of their world tour.
