A woman in her 40s who was indicted on charges of stalking the couple of singer Rain and actress Kim Tae-hee was sentenced to six months in prison.

On the morning of the 10th, Ms. A, a woman in her 40s, who was indicted on charges of violating the Stalking Punishment Act at Criminal Division 9 of the Seoul Western District Court (Judge Kang Young-ki), was sentenced to six months in prison and ordered to complete a 40-hour stalking healing program.

On this day, the court said, “The defendant is a first-time offender and does not appear to have the intention to cause harm or harass. However, the crime of stalking the victim on a continuous and repeated basis is not a good crime.”

They then sentenced him to prison, saying, “The defendant was diagnosed with schizophrenia and committed this crime while mentally and physically weak. Considering the difficulty in obtaining appropriate treatment for the defendant, there are significant concerns about repeat offenses.” On this day, Ms. A did not attend.

Previously, in 2021, Ms. A visited the home of the couple, Rain and Kim Tae-hee, in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and rang their doorbell, causing anxiety.

Rain has already warned about the behavior at home since 2020 and said, “If actions that violate the artist’s privacy and threaten his/her personal safety are repeated, we will take all possible legal measures to protect the artist mentally and physically.”

Ms. A created anxiety on 14 occasions from March to October 2021, and she received notice of violation of the Misdemeanor Punishment Act three times. This was before the enforcement of the stalking punishment law. She was subsequently indicted without detention for violating the Stalking Punishment Act from December of the following year.

The prosecution requested that Mr. A be sentenced to one year in prison considering that he caused great anxiety to Rain and Kim Tae-hee, and in today’s trial, the court sentenced Mr. A to six months in prison. Rain and Kim Tae-hee’s stalker, Ms. A, was sentenced to prison, freeing them from the harassment they had suffered for three years.
