Actress Cha Joo-young to star in new tvN drama ‘Wonkyung’ following breakout role in ‘The Glory’

Actress Cha Joo-young, who gained attention for her role as one of the bullies in the popular Korean drama ‘The Glory’, has been cast as the lead in tvN’s upcoming drama ‘Won-Kyung’. According to a report by Sports Chosun on May 9th, Cha will be playing the role of ‘Won-Kyung’, the queen consort who helped Taizong (played by Lee Bang-won) seize the throne.

Cha Joo-young made her debut in the 2016 tvN drama ‘Cheese in the Trap’ and has since appeared in several popular dramas as a supporting actress, including ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’, ‘The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop’, ‘Meloholic’, and ‘Again My Life’.

In ‘The Glory’, Cha played the role of Choi Hye-jung, one of the five bullies who physically and verbally abused Eun-dong (played by Song Hye-kyo) during their high school days. Despite being from a less privileged background compared to the other bullies, Hye-jung was just as cruel and malicious as the rest of them. After growing up and becoming a flight attendant, she hoped to marry into a wealthy family and improve her social status. However, her vulnerability was exploited by Moon Dong-won (played by Park Ji-il), causing conflicts and tensions within the group.

Cha Joo-young’s nuanced portrayal of Hye-jung’s character was well-received by audiences and critics alike, solidifying her as a rising star in the Korean entertainment industry. She is currently playing the role of Jang Se-jin, the first love and secretary of Gong Tae-gyeong (played by Ahn Jae-hyun) in KBS2’s weekend drama “The Real Has Come!”

With her talent and versatility as an actress, Cha Joo-young is poised to continue making waves in the Korean entertainment industry and beyond. Fans are eagerly anticipating her performance in ‘Won-Kyung’, which is set to air in the first half of next year.
