Jung Joon-young, central figure in ‘Burning Sun’ incident, to be released in 4 months

Former BIGBANG member Seungri, who completed a 1 year and 6 months prison sentence for charges related to prostitution mediation and overseas gambling, has been spotted in clubs and other places since his release in February. This has brought renewed attention to the current status of Jung Joon-young and his friends.

Online communities on the 8th have been highlighting the news that Jung Joon-young has only four months left until his release.

Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon’s sexual offenses were revealed during the investigation of Seungri’s ‘Burning Sun’ Gate.

A group chat was discovered on Seungri’s phone during the investigation into his crimes, known as the ‘Jung Joon-young group chat.’

In January 2016, Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon were convicted of gang-raping a heavily intoxicated woman along with former Burning Sun MD Kim Mo, company employee Kwon Mo, and former entertainment agency employee Heo Mo.

In particular, Jung Joon-young was also charged with illegally filming sexual acts multiple times over several months and sharing the footage in the group chat from late 2015.

He was initially sentenced to 6 years in prison in the first trial but had his sentence reduced to 5 years in the second trial. The Supreme Court upheld this decision in September 2020, and he is currently serving his sentence with an expected release date of March 20, 2024.

On the other hand, Choi Jong-hoon, who returned to society through full-term release, has already served his legal punishment but still exhibits an unrepentant attitude, causing controversy. After his release, he and his mother attended church, with his mother loudly stating, “Why are they making such a fuss over something trivial? Why bother someone who is trying to live in faith? God will take care of everything in due time.”

Seungri, on the other hand, has faced various controversies in his private life, from reports of club sightings to his encounter with an Indonesian prostitute, involvement in drug cases, and disputes over his involvement with actresses from the Chinese-speaking region.
